Talking (not Tackling) Street Art at Housepaint.
Mar 27/09 -Toronto -What is the definition of vandalism with regard to street art and graffiti? What is the municipal policy and possible penalties for street artists? As street artists become more enmeshed with the art world, how do they maintain their street credibility? How is street art different from tagging and vandalism? Is street art simply a short cut into the art establishment? These important questions were the full nelsons of the Wednesday night throw down I attended - between artists and establishment at the ROM's Signy and Cléophée Eaton Theatre as part of their current exhibition, Housepaint.

March 23/09 - New York - I've never been to a mobster's funeral, but I imagine it would be something like what unfolded the other night at the powerHouse Arena bookstore and gallery space in Brooklyn. As hundreds of people shuffled into the cavernous DUMBO space, a stone-faced plainclothes cop stood on the opposite side of Main Street, his video camera trained on the entrance to capture on tape all who went in and out. "Do you fish?" a cop later explained. "You go where the fish are."

Jan 6/09 - Billings Montana -One of the items on the agenda is revising a letter sent by the city's code enforcement division to notify home-owners and businesses about graffiti. The new letter acknowledges graffiti as "un-welcomed" act, and identified people who experience graffiti as victims.
