Jan 3, 2011 - San Francisco - Bruce Tomb is a quiet guy. You probably know him best through the wheatpasted artwork that appears on a blank section of wall on Valencia Street, between 23rd and 24th. The wall is part of the old Mission Police Station, which Tomb bought at a city auction in 1996 and turned into a home and architecture studio. Tomb’s decision to protect the wall, with its graffiti and wheatpasted posters, from both the anti-graffiti squads of the Department of Public Works and the glossy advertisements slapped up by crews that comb the Mission looking for any blank space to put a Heineken ad, transformed it into a surprising and voluble community space.

Dec 23, 2010 - California -Graffiti is everywhere. Whether one sees graffiti as an amazing art form and means of expression, or a costly, unsightly vandalism, there is no denying that it has a presence in Arcata. How can the two viewpoints find a medium, one that allows for continued expression, but diminishes the damage to private property? A legal wall, on public property, is the best idea. Having a place where it is acceptable and safe to throw up one’s work offers a positive outlet.

CBC My Region - Calgary police crack down on graffiti.

Sept 19/2010 -Last year, the city council toyed with the idea of giving graffiti artists a legal spray-painting zone at Shaw Millennium Park, but that idea was voted down. Earlier this year, the city launched a plan to put surveillance cameras in graffiti hotspots. City officials said some have been installed and are working but wouldn't provide further details.
