Sparkles
Another Story in Three Sentences

ROW80-3 checkin 7/4 - mmm, spreadsheets!

First check in for this round. I've added more objectives this round, but tried to group them in areas. The intent is to get some stuff done in each area, not necessarily always everything. Who am I kidding - will never do everything listed for a day! I also added some time targets to help balance things. And the next step, of course, was to put it all in a spreadsheet so I can track for all 80 days and see where I'm ahead or behind. More likely behind. I WON'T be copying all the numbers in here - don't worry. What I will do is start each post with a few short but brilliant comments, add a summary of accomplishments, and attach the current list.

So - comments - done - that was it. Spent enough time playing with objectives and spreadsheets, time to get to work.

Summary

  • Editing - not uo to 10 pages/day yet, but at least WIP is not on shelf. And goes better once I get into it.
  • Writing - two flash fictions so far this week - see earlier posts.
  • Blogs/FB - fairly current - after all, it's only day 3 - how far can I slide??
  • Podcasts - still working at it - found some, but may drop some.
  • Chores - cleaning, filing papers, etc. Getting some done, podcasts help.
  • Family and Friends - added this under health. Important to get that human contact. Today was grandchildren day. Tried doing some crafts with older one (5), he needs to work on that - mostly slowing down an d focusing. He has a good imagination, just needs to apply it better. Gluing little things together wasn't a good start, next time I'll bring pipe-cleaners. We can quickly make some animals and then drive them over the table - play Buffalo Jump.

Target Objectives:

  • Writer (7) - writing for fun, but also working to become a better writer. Writing every day, editing. Reading about writing, books and blogs, as well as networking.
    • Editing (2) - this will be a fixed early task. 2 hrs ?? 10 pages/day
      • Due North. First pass pencil edit done. Now do online. Approx 315 double-spaced pages, starting at page 81.
      •  Due North 2 - sequel. About 260 pages. TBD – cleanup scenes synopsis and notes, print, revise, type in.
    •  Writing (1) - Flash Fiction stories. 2/wk, 3 hrs each, so an hour.
    • Publishing (1/2) -nothing like rejection/acceptance to hone your skills
      • Short Stories (1/4) – Flash fiction. New, or edit existing. Take from blog while submitting. Use market survey from Flash Fiction Chronicles, aim to send in one a week.
      •  Fairy Tale Folk (1/4)- pull them together into collection. Start with a spreadsheet – story, characters, their traits, their development, good for ongoing stories too. Edit if time. Not a high priority this round.
  •  Learning/sharing (3 1/2)
    • Blogs (1) - maybe too many subscriptions. Track them all for a week and rate them.
    • Facebook (1/2) - ROW80 group, Ottawa Writers, Creative Writing Circle, and NaNoWriMo Ottawa.
    • Podcasts (1) - have set up a few, mostly on writing. Can follow these while walking or cooking.
    • Reading (1) - non-fiction, to entertain and learn.
    • Reading (1) - fiction, to entertain and learn.
  • Health (2 1/2) - not a lot of time, but needs to be a main item.
    • Walking (1) - can be an evening activity too. With podcasts. Will aim for 10,000 steps.
    • Exercise/sports (1/2) -Short morning yoga session. Floor exercises? Bike?
    • Diet – Better food, less alcohol (healthier and cheaper).
    • Schedule - hopefully this will be healthy addition too.
    • Friends and family (1) - just to make sure don't get stuck inside doing all these tasks
  •  Chores (2) - the boring stuff. Cleaning, laundry, shopping. And taxes.
  • TV (1)
  • Total 11.25

I'm very tired now. You have a lot of goals, which is great -- especially since some of them look like a one time (or one week) thing -- like rating the blogs you subscribe to. I wish I could do all the things you're doing.

Sounds like you're doing great! Craft day sounds like fun - I sort of added that to my schedule too; I've bene scrapbooking all our vacation photos. Love stickers :-)

Only a few days into it, looking forward to this Round

Amy - hopefully my list wasn't what tired you out. I'm hoping to get into the rhythm of things in a few days with this. Have a lot on the list but want to push if I can. If not - willing to cut back. Rating the blogs will be a one time thing, just to cut the list back this week.

Kim

That's quite a list! I'm looking forward to hearing more about how the spreadsheet works for you. It's an interesting idea, and now I'm kind of contemplating doing one of my own.
