ROW80-4 - 12/26 - This is the end

The end of another ROW80. I tried to follow on with the same goals and objectives, and managed OK. I was looking for focus and flexibility, trying to balance publishing with other writerly things. My Goals were still long term - to become a better writer and to become a successful (income earning) author. Also, I wanted to ensure that I live life, make some positive contributions to it, and get/stay healthy enough to enjoy it. Focus on the journey, not just the destination. Objectives were similar to last round with the focus on publishing tasks. Things did change a bit, but I stayed flexible. Looking forward to the next ROW80, as I find the discipline, sense of community, and encouragement really helps. Next year I want to edit/publish book #2 but also get back into Flash Fiction.

Here's my objectives for the last round, and status:

Objective - Publishing

  • Publish Kirk's Landing by December - done, published start of November
  • Go 'live' online. Book launch. Book market - All done, and ongoing marketing. Note - have a Boxing Day special on - via Smashwords. Enter coupon code DU55M. And leave a review, if you like the book.

Objective - Writing

  • "Win" NaNoWriMo - 50,000 words by November 30th. - done. Used my Ghost in the Machine theme. Worked out better than I had thought it would.
  • ROW80 check in's - Sunday and Wednesday. Did maybe half of these, not a lot to report it seemed.

Objective - Writerly

  • Keep backlog of blogs to 2 days or less. Did, but erratically. Have a lot to follow, so can pile up if don't make it a habit.
  • Book clubs - have two a month, to read and critique. Done
  • Books - no more than two per week. Done - kept to limit

Objective - Other

  • Walking - At least one 30 minute chunk per day. Sort of - probably averaged 15 min/day.
  • Drop in a few days a week at the coffee shop on the corner, to my local for beer, music, and conversation. Not daily. And visit my grandkids. Done
  • Chores - Have more shelves, but need to keep unpacking. Kept at it, especially in the pre-Christmas prep.
  • Courses - didn't list but was one of the things I tried to do once more. Took The Future of Storytelling, via Potsdam University, in Germany. Interesting, but not enough to keep me at it.

Keeping up with life and living life are two very different things, which you clearly have a handle on, Mike. While you'd picked mostly flexible goals, it looks as if they worked in your favor this year. A decent round up. Keep it going next year too.
