FFF - Week 10 - The Retiree

This week's prompt from FFF was to incorporate some words into your story. I'm also busy doing NaNoWriMo, charging through the first draft of yet another novel, so I decided to just incorporate them into a scene. The result was something that is not as rough as a draft scene should, but not as polished as most of my stories. A compromise.
Here's the prompt:

To commemorate the start of NaNoWriMo, the annual ‘drives-you-crazy-but-you-love-every-second-of-it’ writing project, the prompt this week will be ‘words’.

OR
If you are doing NaNo, and need a break from your 50,000, take your time out with us at F3. All we’ll ask of you here is 1,500 words max.
OR
If you are doing NaNo, and adding F3 to your itinerary would push you into maximum overdrive, put our prompts on hold until December. Do stop by though on each deadline Thursday and post your current word count so we can all celebrate your progress. We are, after all, in this writing gig together.
