ROW80-2 -Objectives -2019
April 01, 2019
Well, here we are, the second ROW of the year and an opportunity to reflect and readjust. I did start the year with an extensive set of objectives, Some were met, some not quite, some complete misses.
My long-term goals remain the same:
- to become a better writer
- to grow my community of online followers
- to maintain my health - mental and physical
Objectives (writerly and an 'other' section):
- Write - Because I do enjoy it. I'll set a new and very modest target of 1h/day, early in the day.
- Write new material - one draft Flash Fiction a week.
- Edit existing material - to send in for publication - see below.
- Work on my next novel
- Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
- My main source of writing info is a series of writerly blogs. Objective -stay current.
- Continue with setting Flash Fiction prompts. Good for challenge, practice, and feedback. Objective - set a challenge a week.
- Publish/market - We publish partially for the glory and bags of money, but also for the feedback and increased marketability.
- I have many FF written already, here. I'll re-examine them, and send off one a week to some publishers.
- Read with purpose
- Objective - read and review a book a week.
- Better health
- It's spring now. Set Fitbit target to 3500 steps a day. Objective - 5 times a week.
- Set sleep target to 7.5 hours, starting at midnight. Objective - 5 times a week.
- Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa.
- Again, limits for some of this. No more than three pub visits a week.
- Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors? I had this objective last year for casual fun, like Netflix and video games. But now gaming, and Twitch streaming, has grown to several hours a day, at various times, for various durations. Sometimes I have viewers to chat with, sometimes not.
- Set up a regular schedule (try again!)
- Use Map My Walk to track my exercise, and show in Google Earth for me.
- Chores - I added this to capture bigger jobs.
Great goals! I want to work on my health next quarter when my foot is better.
Oh hey, you're on Twitch? What's your username/link? I am on there, but I don't stream. (Not yet). What game (s) do you play?
I play Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.

All good stuff, Mike. I like how you sectioned it off, and the way you took "indoor" activities into consideration and said... more outdoor too.

Thx Eden, my goals, and structure, keep evolving.
Erin, I'm on Twitch as ravensview. Mostly ETS2 and ATS - trucking online. Single player and occasionally multi - in a convoy.

Great goals. I like to the long view approach and turning that into the short term goals. It's always best to have a lighthouse on the horizon to steer towards!

Always a treat to see what you're up to, Mike!
I have a story coming out later in the year that centers around a piece of graffiti the kids spotted on a passing train. Made me think of you.
My son is discovering Twitch, so it's neat to see what you're doing with it.
May this round be your best yet - and enjoy those grandchildren ( not that you needed me to tell you that!).
