Walk on the Wild Side
The Caretaker

ROW80-2 - 06/16 -Ready for the next Round

I know this one is not quite finished, but I have a new focus ready. I have five draft novels - all from NaNoWriMo - waiting to be finished. And then sent out for an agent or publisher. Fame and fortune to follow. My dilemma was choosing which one to focus on, but some friends helped me with that. We've picked the most interesting/marketable one,The Ghost in the Machine. The plan is that when I'm not bust writing Flash Fiction or marketing my existing works, I polish that work. It's been a few years, and I may have the wrong protagonist, so I will start into it with a high level view.

Objectives (writerly and other):

  • Write - Because I do enjoy it.
    • Write new material - one draft Flash Fiction a week. Story done and posted here.  Posted on some Facebook groups, with good feedback. The challenge was to pick a random Street View spot - look around, and write. The title is Walk on the Wild Side.
    • Edit existing material - to send in for publication - I talked to friends and family, and have selected one of my stories, The Ghost in the Machine. I found the latest version (late 2017) and loaded it into Scrivener on my laptop.
  • Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
    • My main source of writing info is a series of writerly blogs. Objective  -stay current.  Caught up, although that's often a pre-blog Sunday morning thing!
    • Objective - set a FF challenge a week.  Prompt is set, this week is a dumpster, plus five random words.    m
    • MasterClass on Storytelling, by Neil Gaiman. Finished, but still to do the workbooks!. Against my 'new' novel.
  • Publish/market  - We publish partially for the glory and bags of money, but also for the feedback and increased marketability.
    • I have many FF written already, here
    • Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP -Some sales, but not a big profit on this yet. But I continue to tweak once a week, trying stuff.
    • New technique - give away print copies of Flash Fiction Stories. Still doing this.
    • I sent in a story, Greta's Reach,  to two online publications.
  • Read with purpose
    • Objective - read and review a book a week. Read Eyes of the Dragon, a 1987 fantasy novel by Stephen King. Light, but good.
    • Fitbit target Objective - 7 day average 3500.  Not even close.
    • Set sleep target to 7.5 hours, starting at midnight. Objective - 5 times a week.  Hours good, bedtime varies still. Which impacts plan to write every morning.
  • Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. Babysat my grand-daughter, off to Father's Day soon. Plus my new local - which is too close!
  • Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
    • Netflix/Amazon - More Grey's Anatomy. Etc.
    • Gaming - trying a 8:30-10:30 schedule.
    • Vacation -no plans yet.
  • Chores - I added this to capture bigger jobs. Gardening- weeding.Threw out my old bench.

Choosing a project to focus on is a big step, I hope it works well for you! I have to play around with the KDP settings myself, let me know if you have any tips or tricks!

Oooh! Is your Ghost in the Machine anything like the anime/recent movie?

I often get antsy for the next round toward the end of any given period, too. Yay for being prepared.
