ROW80-3 21/07/2019 -Finding Motivation

It's been a while, a couple of weeks I think. Not really motivated to post when I haven't done nearly as much as I hoped. That's supposed to be our motivation to meet our goals and objectives, knowing we'e committed to do stuff and update our status.  Lot's of things I'd like to do - publish a novel, lose weight, clean the house, but they often seem insurmountable. And the motivation is often vague.  Having a publisher with a deadline, or a doctor with a scary cardiogram - that would work. But I'm not there. I have made some progress though, writerly or otherwise, so I'll look at that.

Objectives and status (writerly and other):

  • Write - Because I enjoy it.
    • Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
      • Did one for a contest for NYC Midnite - 1000 words in 48 hours. Edited carefully, sent it in, and then found a typo. Oh well. Story is Who Will Be Next. Mystery, with a bit of sci-fi ad fan-fic blended in. I liked it. 
    • Edit existing material - to send in for publication. 2h/d. I've selected one of my stories, The Ghost in the Machine. 1-2 hours/day. Not as much as I'd hoped, but I head to Toronto Wednesday for a week. I'll bring it with me. . 
  • Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
    • Series of writerly blogs. Objective  -stay current.  Yup. 
    • Write regularly - set a FF challenge a week.  Yup, challenge is about a birthday. See below. 
    • Other - Still need to do workbooks for MasterClass on Storytelling, by Neil Gaiman. It might help my editing.
  • Publish/market  
    • Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP -Some sales, but suggested bids keep going up. I've cut all the bids to a tenth of former value, and increased dynamic pricing percentages. 
    • Give away print copies of Flash Fiction Stories. Still doing this, mostly at my local. Good feedback.
    • Send in one story a week to a publication. Got another rejection back, "Not a fit at this time, try again", so that was okay. 
  • Read with purpose
    • Objective - read and review a book a week. Some waiting at the liberry. 
  • Health
    • Fitbit step Objective - 7 day average 3500.  At 2700 - could be better.
    • Set sleep target to 7 (was 7.5) hours, starting at midnight. 7 hours, 5/7 days. Bedtime 5/7 days. Usually up 7/8.  
  • Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. Big social week, as my birthday as the 18th. Dinner with kids and their famiies, free drinks from friends at my local. 
  • Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
    • Netflix/Amazon -  Still lots of Grey's Anatomy, and some Black's Books. 
    • Gaming - 8:30-10:30 schedule.  Yes, off and on for my trucking. But have a new game, Elite Dangerous. Flying around the Gaaxy, minung, fighting, being a bounty hunter - my choice. And using  a new HOTAS. Both courtesy of my son. Very steep learning curve. 
    • Vacation - Do at least mini-trips. Thinking.
  • Chores - I added this to capture bigger jobs, like gardening. Occasional weeding. Housecleaning would be nice.
