ROW80-3 04/08/2019 Getting Things Done
August 04, 2019
There's a process/book/movement around GTD. I think I need it, all though I would call it GTRTD. Getting The Right Things Done. I do a lot in the day - we all manage to be busy doing something, even if it's staring out a window. What I do need to start with is record in detail what I actually spend the day on. Might be scary. Then find some tools to manage my time - maybe just my Evernote?
I was in Toronto until last Wednesday night, and had lots of quiet mornings on my girlfriend's front porch. She slept. I edited/wrote/read. Or stared into space.
Status (progress shown in italics):
- Write - Because I enjoy it.
- Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
- Did another one for last Friday, with a prompt of heat, plus a rando location and a random thing. Mine was The Chase. birthday theme.
- Edit existing material - to send in for publication. 2h/d. I've selected one of my stories, The Ghost in the Machine. Lots of hours in coffee shop and on porch. I am making progress.
- Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
- Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
- Series of writerly blogs. Objective -stay current. Yup.
- Write regularly - set a FF challenge a week. Yup, the challenge this time is from an Australian site - 500 words in 55 hours. Using six pairs of adjectives. I'll do 1000 words, by next Friday.
- Other - Still need to do workbooks for MasterClass on Storytelling, by Neil Gaiman. It might help my editing. And the James Patterson one looks intriguing.
- Publish/market
- Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP -Some sales, but suggested bids keep going up. Still have all the bids to a tenth of former value, and decreased dynamic pricing percentages just to calm it down.
- Give away print copies of Flash Fiction Stories. Still doing this, mostly at my local. Good feedback.
- Send in one story a week to a publication. Nope.
- Read with purpose
- Objective - read and review a book a week. Some waiting at home. I am churning through my Guardian Weekly though.
- Health
- Fitbit step Objective - 7 day average 3500. Average is down at 2200, but varies a lot.
- Set sleep target to 7 hours, starting at midnight. 7 hours, 6/7 days. Bedtime 5/7 days. Usually up 7/8.
- Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. At my girlfriend's place and did a siblings a lunch. And beers at a local, and coffee at a cafe.
- Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
- Netflix/Amazon - Still too much Grey's Anatomy, etc.
- Gaming - 8:30-10:30 schedule. Too much. My trucking, plus a new game, Elite Dangerous.
- Vacation - Do at least mini-trips. Thinking. Would have to be solo.
- Chores - Gardening. "New" bookcase.
