A Walk in the Mist

ROW80-3 18/08/19 I have a plan- again

I have an editing plan for this pass. I won't chuck the whole thing, yet.

I've sometimes used a scene/sequel type of division in my novels. A scene starts with a Goal, introduces Conflict against that goal, and finishes with an Outcome when the conflict is partially resolved. Partially, because we'r not done the story. A sequel starts with a Reaction, usually to a previous scene, a Dilemma that needs to be resolved, and a final Decision. Which may eventually kick off another Goal. These types may pair up evenly or not.

My plan is to plow through this novel yet another time, seeing if each 'scene' is a scene or a sequel, or at least has some conflict. I suspect some will be none of the above. I won't rewrite until I'm done.

Other than that, FF story is done, another one set, and some reading done, including a novel from the 1920's by some journalist.

Status (progress shown in italics):

  • Write - Because I enjoy it.
    • Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
      • Did another one for last Friday, the prompt being a cottage and a random song.  Mine was Margaritaville
    • Edit existing material - to send in for publication. 2h/d. I've selected one of my stories, The Ghost in the Machine. At it again. See above.
  • Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
    • Series of writerly blogs. Objective  -stay current.  Not so much. Maybe tomorrow, at a cafe.
    • Write regularly - set a FF challenge a week.  Next challenge is  to write a romantic story, set on a lake, in th mist. Yup, the challenge this time is a story with location, the cottage, and listening to a random tune.
    • Other - Masterclass - Try the James Patterson one?
  • Publish/market
    • Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP -Some sales, still keeping it very conservative.
    • Give away stories. Yes, but not a lot of feedback any more.
    • Send in one story a week to a publication. Nope.
  • Read with purpose
    • Objective - read and review a book a week. Finished A Farewell to Arms. Meh. Here's my review . Still churning through my Guardian Weekly though.
  • Health
    • Fitbit step Objective - 7 day average 3500.  Consistently below this, average more like 2600. So working at it.
    • Set sleep target to 7 hours, starting at midnight. Doing well at this.
  • Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. Yup
  • Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
    • Netflix/Amazon -  Too many shows, not enough time.
    • Gaming - 8:30-10:30 schedule.  Lots. Helping someone test his mods.
    • Vacation - Do at least mini-trips. Thinking. Would have to be solo.
  • Chores - Occasional vacuuming.  Girlfriend arrives next week - lots to do before then!!!
