ROW80-3 28/2/19 Where did summer go?
August 28, 2019
I was sitting at my local the other day, 'working', and noticed this tree just across the street. Some of the leaves at the top are just starting to turn. Yikes!! I know the days actually started getting shorter back in June, but this was a reminder that time is passing, and soon another year will be done. Those projects we started in January, to be done this year, only have a few months left - three before the Christmas madness arrives. Just thought I'd remind everyone ;-)
My girlfriend is up for a visit, and we're heading to a friend's cottage today for a couple of days of relaxation. It will be a busy place, with her daughter's friends there too, so I will be hard pressed to find writing time. I'll bring my latest manuscript. I'll also bring some copies of my books, and some business cards, and try to make some new fans. Or just soak in more material for my writing.
Status (progress shown in italics):
- Write - Because I enjoy it.
- Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
- Did another one for last Friday, the prompt being a photo of an eerie lake and the genre of romance. Nothing scary, no bloody knives, no zombies.
- Edit existing material - to send in for publication. 2h/d. Not enough here.
- Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
- Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
- Series of writerly blogs. Objective, to stay current. Doing okay. I should post some of the interesting ones I see.
- Write regularly - set a FF challenge a week. Set a challenge to write about zombies, but with a few twists. Avoid some of the cliches.
- Other - Masterclass - Try the James Patterson one?
- Publish/market
- Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP -Some sales, still keeping it very conservative.
- Give away stories. Yes, but not a lot of feedback any more.
- Send in one story a week to a publication. Nope, nothing sent, but got a nice rejection with comment on a story sent a few months ago.
- Read with purpose
- Objective - read and review a book a week. Finished Sandman, by Neil Gaiman. Interesting. Story line was a little hard for me to follow, but amazing work by the artists. Still churning through my Guardian Weekly though. I occasionally even et one finished before the next week's issue arrive.
- Health
- Fitbit step Objective - 7 day average 3500. Doing at least 3500 most days, so average up from 2600 to 3100.
- Set sleep target to 7 hours, starting at midnight. Doing well at this, got it for last 7 days!
- Eat better . And lose weight. Less visits to my local, no beer/wine at home to tempt me, smaller servings.
- Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. See above. Less bars, more walking. Girlfriend here.
- Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
- Netflix/Amazon - Too many shows, not enough time.
- Gaming - 8:30-10:30 schedule. Lots, but only n one game. Helping someone test his mods. Almost 500 followers now.
- Vacation - Do at least mini-trips. Thinking. Would have to be solo.
- Chores - Big cleanup for girlfriend's visit. Maybe I need a Roomba?
