Almost Dead
The Pet

ROW80-3 01/09/2019 A break at the cottage

My girlfriend came up last Tuesday for a week, and Wednesday we went up for a few days to a friend's cottage. Definitely a restful time. Four adults, two late teens, all interesting to talk to. A university prof and a writer were our hosts. I had writing and editing to do, but it was usually too distracting to work.  And I'd brought a tablet instead of my laptop - to hard to type. So - Friday's noon-ish story was done Friday evening. I did have a good talk with the other writer about trying to make some sense of the scenes in the story I was trying to edit. It's an early one, and some of the are, I'm afraid, shite.

Status (progress shown in italics):

  • Write - Because I enjoy it.
    • Write new material - one Flash Fiction a week.
      • Did another one for last Friday, the prompt being zombies, with a bit of a twist. Mine was called Almost Dead.
    • Edit existing material - to send in for publication. 2h/d. I did work on my draft novel a bit. Getting there, slowly. It's depressing at times to see how much work it may need, but at least I have something to edit, right?
  • Write better - Read about how to write, and get constructive feedback.
    • Series of writerly blogs. Objective, to stay current.  Doing okay.
    • Write regularly - set a FF challenge a week.  Set a challenge  to write about a needy pet. Chosen at random from a list of mythical creatures.
    • Other - Masterclass - Try the James Patterson one? Soon.
  • Publish/market
    • Amazon Marketing Services Campaigns on KDP - Nudging values up on one book. Keep other one more conservative. sales, still keeping it very conservative.
    • Give away stories. Yes. Found a few fane, so give them repeats.
    • Send in one story a week to a publication. Nope, nothing sent.
  • Read with purpose
    • Objective - read and review a book a week. Finished Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman. The 'author's preferred text'. Definitely enjoyed it, raced through in one day.
  • Health
    • Fitbit step Objective - 7 day average 3500.  Average up to 3700 now.
    • Set sleep target to 7 hours, starting at midnight. Doing well at this, got it for last 7 days!
    • Eat better .  And lose weight. Less visits to my local, no beer/wine at home to tempt me, smaller servings. No loss. But no gain!
  • Stay social - That's a given, what with walking about, visits to local cafes and bars, and all my grandkids being in Ottawa. See above. Less bars, more walking.  Girlfriend here.
  • Have fun - Gaming, Netflix - both indoors. Outdoors?
    • Netflix/Amazon -  Too many shows, not enough time.
    • Gaming - 8:30-10:30 schedule.  Lots, but mostly one game.
    • Vacation - Do at least mini-trips. Thinking. Would have to be solo.
  • Chores - Gardening
