Downsizing
Santa and Jesus

Though this be madness, yet there is method in ’t.

I'm sure Polonius would have not hesitated to apply this to Donny's strategies, mad as they might seem.

I had hoped to awake November 4th with one of my stressors gone -- the uncertainty over the election. Nope. The unprecedented piles of mail-in votes still have to be counted and all the Republican court challenges dealt with before we know the result. Yet Donny was on the airwaves at 2:30 in the morning, not only claiming victory but also wanting the count stopped. Especially in states where the continuing count is likely to slide the balance away from him and toward Biden. He seems to think he can go right to his Supreme Court for this, as if he can just pick up the phone and give them a call. Yes, he may try that in his madness, but it's not the process.

So, here at 9-ish in the morning, where do things stand? Politico is showing Biden 238, Donny 213. The Senate is even at 47-47, with 6 open but trending to Republicans. The House is 189-181, for the Democrats, with 65 still up for grabs. Not my favoured scenario, but not bad.

The best outcome would likely have been Biden as President, with a majority in both the House and Senate. That would give the most power to deal with COVID and the economy and try to roll back some of the chaos Donny has deliberately sowed.  The worst, IMHO, would be Donny and all the Republicans. It looks like the result could be as listed above: Biden gets in, keeps the House, loses the Senate. I have no problems with Republicans per se, as long as they act in the interests of the people and not just their own power. I think any country, and its people, can benefit from a strong opposition party.

In the meantime, I'm heading out shortly to drop off my car to get the snow tires installed and do some shopping.

BTW - I think we can confirm that polling is broken, after so many sites claimed a huge loss for Donny and the Republicans. As they did in 2016. I'm sure there will be a lot of statisticians looking at this in the coming months.
